Commissioner for Oaths

We act as Commissioners for Oaths, which means we are authorised to verify affidavits (statements in writing and on oath) and other legal documents. This would include our verification of the signing of statutory declarations, the witnessing of signatures on legal documents, the certification of copies of documents as true copies and various other legal documents. We offer this service for a range of jobs, be they small tasks for single documents or large signings/affirmations involving many documents/oaths.

You may need our Commissioner for Oaths services if you are giving evidence on affidavit for court proceedings in Ireland or if you are making an acknowledgement, affirmation, attestation, declaration or examination for the purposes of court proceedings or for the purposes of registering documents. This could even include more day-to-day issues, such as a passport application, or a document you need for your employment or education.

What you need to bring:

  1. Bring your passport. Photo ID is required for affidavits/statutory declarations/witnessing of signatures.
  2. Bring your documents. For documents to be witnessed/signed in accordance with relevant rules of practice, the entire document is necessary.
  3. Bring proof of your address such as a utility bill, bank statement or a document from Revenue. This document must be dated within the last three months.

This service entails a standard fee of €10 per signature for verifying statements. If there is an exhibit, such as a marriage certificate, attached that needs signing, there is an additional €2 charge.
